He wasn't very suprised when he walked into this small town. After all, it seemed only natural that some cities were smaller than others. Yet this one seemed more crowded than usual. Small cities didn't have much comotion, so maybe they were just a few people that were here to battle the gym leader, but were putting it off until later, when they thought they were strong enough. Well, Max wasn't one of those people.
He couldn't help but walk proudly with Flame by his side. He had sent back Nine to Professor Elm's in exchange for his mother's Persian. He knew he would need it's water type moves to defeat Brock, the ground type Gym Leader here in this town. He knew it was all too easy, though. He had defeated many gyms in the past, so who was to say he couldn't defeat this one? No one, really. With some Pokeballs around his belt, he walked more or less silently in this what seemed to be large crowd. That is, until, someone bumped into him. He couldn't tell if it were on purpose or if someone wasn't just paying attention, but it was at a price. All five of his hanging Pokeballs went scattering about, rolling as they grew larger.
"Watch where you're going!" he said in a loud tone as he droped to his knees, collecting his Pokeballs. And frankly, the perpertrairer wasn't going to help.

He couldn't help but feel amazed as he thudded into the Gym, the sound echoing off the rock walls around him. This place looked huge! Or was is just that he hadn't been in a Gym for such a long time? Yeah, that was probably it. Flame hung close as they approched the challanger's side of the arena. Max's eyes gazed around curiously, wondering where the Gym Leader was. They were usually within eye eight or hearing range. Although, thatwas just Johto. He knew knew how the Kanto leaders acted. He had never even met any of them. Heck, he rarely heard much about them anway, so how should he know much about them, right? He doubted anyone around here knmew about him unless they saw the Johto Leauge Championships just a few months earlier. He came in second, you know.
"Hello?" he hollared, pausing where the challanger was supposed to step. He hadn't even relized that he was holding a Pokeball, probably Persain's. Hello?" he repeated. "I'm here for a Gym Battle!"

"Yeah, I'm in here." Brock replied from the end of the gym.
The lights went on and Brock could be seen over a larger rock, his arms crossed.
"I saw you coming... I am wondering... Do you come for a defeat?" He muttered, readying a Pokéball.

He couldn't help but smirk as the Gym Leader appeared. Do you come for a defeat? Max chuckled inwardly at the question. He never came to lose. He always came to win.
"I don't think I'll be loosing any time soon, sir," he chuckled. "The name's Max, and I'm from Johto. And I'm here to be the best!"

Brock snickered at the introduction, crossing his arms again while holding the Pokéball in his left hand.
He instantly jumped from the rock and slowly walked to the arena's position.
"I've got a challenger, then!" He announced, and the taller rocks crumbled away to reveal a much harder stage, almost like a canyon, directly in the middle of the arena. A few pillars formed a Pokéball, symbolizing the center. "I, Brock, Leader of the Pewter City Pokémon Gym, accept your challenge for an official battle!" Brock raised his right hand. "The battle for the Boulder Badge!" He added, revealing the badge between his fingers.

"Great!" Max practicaly shouted in return. He was always excited about a Gym Battle, no matter how many times he faced the Gym Leader. "Let's go, Gem!" His technic wasn't much diffrent from anybody else's when throwing a Pokeball, but either way, a Pokeball was thrown.
"Pershian!" called the cat-like Pokemon as the red broke away, revealing a Persain.

"Time for the show!" Brock declared, putting the badge in his pocket and throwing the Pokéball to the canyon. "Geodude, do it!"
As the ball opened to release a red beam towards the canyon walls, the rock Pokémon could be seen forming, it's two, muscled-rock like arms stretching out, his large hands ready to grab and throw.
"Tackle on Persian!" Brock imposingly commanded, raising his hand towards the cat Pokémon.
Geodude instantly hovered towards Persian at high speed, bracing for impact.

Max couldn't help but smirk at this. They usualy always had to go on full throtal at the start of a battle. They usually did, though. Unless they were the Phsycic type leaders or something. Then they focused on defense or something. but still, it was always fun.
"Now, Gem!" Max commanded. "Use protect!"
Pershian!" A green sheild came infront of the cat pokemon instantly.

Geodude helplessly flew against the barrier, only to be propelled back by the shield's strength.
"Dang it, good move." Brock admitted, trying to keep focus. "But can it stand this? Geodude, go underground!"
The rock type quickly dug it's way down the soil, leaving behind a hole.

Max smirked. "You'll probably have to think of more stratigies than that," he commented. "Gem, use water pulse and launch it into the hole! Quickly!"
Obidently, the Persian leapt forward, skidding to a hault with it's head looming over the hole's entrnace. A water ball with rings appeared at it's mouth, and it quickly launched it into the hole. Gem raised her head, looking around to see if the Geodude had gotten hit or not. It was only a matter of time.

"Crud!" Brock had just lost his calm after the Water Pulse move.
Immediately after, a small amount of soil was being raised, and quickly, an even larger amount was thrown away as a Geodude was propelled up, already unconscious.
"Come back!" Brock ordered, pointing the ball at the Pokémon. "Nice move, kid." He congratulated once the beam was gone. Putting the ball away, he took out another one, this one decorated in blue and red. "Come on Onix! Show him what you're made of!"
Once the ball was thrown, the giant rock cobra appeared from the midst of blue waves on the ground.
As the red beam ceased, the ball returned to Brock.

He couldn't help but smile as he saw the giant rock snake. He had seen one before, but it had belonged to Giovanni, the Team Rocket boss. He had never liked the man, but had defeated his Onix many times before. But he knew this time was diffrent.
"Ready, Gem?" he asked his Pokemon. Obidently, it nodded. "Now, use water pulse again!" Another ball of water was launched towards Brock's Pokemon.

Brock left out a small laugh.
"You aren't getting anywhere this time! Wipe it out with your tail, Onix!" He commanded.
The giant Pokémon obeyed, an promptly swung his tail to tear the ball apart.
"And use Earthquake!" He ordered in seocnd.
Onix then raised his tail, leaving it suspended for a moment, before crashing it on the ground to release a mighty Earthquake.

"Persian!" the normal-type Pokemon cried, it's legs practicaly going out from uder it. Max sneered, knowing this would be harder than he thought.
"Persain, return!" he ordered, a red light capturing the Pokemon and drawing it back to it's Pokeball. Max quickly put it back on his belt, switching it for another. "Wanna fiight ground with ground?" he commented under his breath. "Let's go, Ty!" he shouted, throwing his next Pokeball.
A large Tyranitar came out, expelling a loud roar from deep within it's lungs. It was ferice, and it was ready to battle.
