I started sword fighting with an English teacher yesterday. I've known this teacher since last year and he likes the middle ages quite a lot, which explains the fact that he has a full suit of plate armor (I wish I had full plate!). But anyway I noticed he had some new swords again (last time he had a wood sword, but it broke over the course of the school year). These swords were the newish Nerf swords that came out a year or so ago. I asked him about it and after a while I asked him if he'd like to battle me and he went with it. I told him I wasn't very good because I've had next to no experience with it. He told me he was old, overweight and hadn't practiced in a while, so we were even. He still won of course being the fact he had tons more experience with swords than me.
By my lunch period today, I went to his classroom to see if he had free time, because I wanted to duel with him again. After beating me quite a lot he started teaching me how to better weild a sword. He taught me how to block incoming attacks and evasion. He also told me I want to be as close to the ground as possible and to move around. If I get closer to the ground (bend your knees) then there's less to hit, if I move around it will be easier to evade attacks. By the end of lunch I was hot and sweaty (I think this might actually make me lose weight XD).
Which now I think I'll make this a regular thing. Its just so much fun to me. I've never had a teacher this epic. I kinda wanna sword battle right now, but don't have any fake swords >_>. Oh well, at least I can hold out till Monday (I hope).

Wow, that's pretty cool! =D
I've done that once or twice, since most of the time I practice with dummies, or some simple targets. I use resistant wood sticks for that, but I've also used a real one (a one-blade sword I still own as decoration) to practice by myself xD
It's really cool to know how to wield a weapon like this, and a real advantage when you need to use an iron rod or something to protect yourself when there's no other weapon around xD
One thing's for sure: learning how to use one is a real asset! xD

Well her's is shorter than what I expected one to be. I think it was dull kinda (not sharpened), but I didn't go and attack anything with it, so there was no real way to tell. She was kinda anal about it, so the most I did was take it out of it's sheath and look at it. As for sword fighting this week, it never really happened... >_> First he was busy with something, then he forgets all week to bring his swords... Oh well, he's got work, so his free time is limited. Gah! I need to like, make my own wooden sword or something and screw around with it outside. I kno a place where theres quite a lot of stuff dumped in piles on top of each other. It's a little aways from my house. Maybe I can go there early when it's not so damn hot...

I get ya xD I just spent a week in the Earth's core (metaphorically speaking xD), so now I can't even tell cold and hot apart xD
In any case, this katana's story already goes back to my family's time in Africa, so it's normal they kept it sharp (you never know =o)

Aside from this sword fighting thing with the teacher, I talk to him about whatever. He told me that he found a katana quite a few years back in an antique store. He told me that it had a really long curve, and with a curved sword, you don't know how much reach it has until you use it. So he he had it and he restored it the best he could (he's no blacksmith he told me) and he was thrusting it around his house and he didn't give it much force and it stabbed a whole straight through his microwave! . He also told me he accidentally took about a 1-inch (my aproximation) chunk off his tv. Lol, I got so many people in my house that Im sure my parents wouldn't aprove of a freaking sword XD. I guess when I move out I'll get my own platemail (The last time I was at the mall I saw a full suit for $3000 something dollars) and a sword. It could be a long time before that happens tho.

I never really did anything like that, but I certainly wouldn't blow my microwave with it xD The best I remember of it is me heading to a small forest nearby to practice there. Let's just say that it's not exactly a really wide-open place, but hey, it's better than inside a house xD

I live in a desert, so theres next to no forests around my house. Sure theres plants, but not a whole lot everywhere, but more than you would think. There is a forest like area near my house where I've gone to play paintball. Its pretty big, it has a lot of plants due to the fact that its a ditch and when it rains it all goes through there. Which that place isn't too far from the random piles of junk and dirt I mentioned before.
As for the story of the microwave, it started by me talking to the teacher about his lunch. He had it microwaved and I mentioned something about how my dad's mom blew up my microwave, and then he went on to talk about how he killed his microwave XD.
