Misty was ready to head out on a journey again. After another year and a half of studying, swimming, and training as the Cerulean City Gym Leader, she was sure that she was ready. She'd just finished a water ballet with her four older sisters. And, after stripping out of her mermaid outfit and putting on some more normal clothes, Misty was sitting in the gym with her legs crossed as the last of the crowd left. She'd left in her hair extensions for some reason. Her hair was dripping slightly on the bleachers behind her, still clearly wet from her performance. In the pool, her Dewgong was swimming happily with a few of her sisters Pokemon.
Watching them, Misty leaned back and grinned. She knew she was ready to start off on another journey. Perhaps later that evening? She toyed with the idea in her find as she fiddled with a strand of her hair. She'd need a group to go with; her parents wouldn't let her go alone. That was the only thing holding her back.

"Okay, that's all for today! Allan, don't forget to make your homework!" Prof. Cal announced as the bell rang.
The students on the desks threw their books and jammed their notebooks into the schoolbags and exited the room very quickly, holding their Pokétchs with much excitement while sending thousands of messages.
"This youth." Cal commented, ordering his book and papers as well and storing them into a case by him.
Having closed it, Cal walked out of the school, a very pleasant breeze crossing the place. A few of the leafs fell down, and pushed by the wind, they made an incredible new ground.
However, this made Cal drift away.
Looking around, he seemed to be nowhere near the school anymore.
A sign caught his attention.
"Cerulean Pokémon Gym..." He whispered, looking at the building.

Did his mind really have to drag him here? Really, of all places, why here? He couldn't help but sigh as he stood in the waiting room with Flame and Nine by his side. Why'd he come here in the first place, anway? Was to to battle? Or just to see if this Gym Leader knew his father. Really, he knew he should've gone to Broke's place first. He could've used one of his father's old water types to kick his rear. But he didn't. He came here instead. Re-ajusting his backpack straps, Max looked around silently. He thought he saw a man standing outside thw building earlier, but he knew he couldn't be sure.
"Ready?" he couldn't help but aske dhim Pokemon, looking at them. They stood on either side of him, Nine on the right, Flame on the left. Both fire types. Both weak against water. Of course he wasn't really planning on battling. Was he?
"Phlo," Flame nodded. Nine made a growl, nodding as well. Max made another sigh before graudally stepping into a walk.
"Hello?" he called.

The crowd had cleared a while ago, but Misty remained sitting. The day was still young, chances are there would be gym challengers coming. She sighed slightly. How was she to leave when she had so many responsibilities here? She knew well that her sisters wouldn't handle them. Misty didn't have time to think this through, however, as she could now hear voices outside the gym.
"Hello?" Someone had shouted from the doorway. Misty jumped up from the bleachers and quickly straightened up her outfit. She hadn't had a chance to take out her hair extensions just yet... but, she didn't have time to do it just yet. Her green eyes fluttered toward the door as she took a few steps forward. "Come on in!" She called out to the person. Glancing at the pool, she noticed that her Pokemon were still splashing happily about. Voices and people no longer seemed to alarm them, which was good. They'd need to get out of the pool, though, if this person was a challenger. She'd have to set up the stadium.

Cal slowly got in, discreetly looking at the decorations.
"I've never been into a Water Gym... but I've heard they're beautiful... a shame there aren't any in Orthan." He commented.
But wait. Someone was coming?

He was sure he heard a voice that time. He had been a bit deliusinal, voices echoing around. There had been some shoe here earlier, he had heard it from a couple of people talking nearby him when he had stopped at a resturant to eat. But he was sure, he knew it. He thought it would be quite fun to meet the Gym Leader. It always was. It had never occured to him that one might join him on a journey of his, but it had never really come to that. They were always busy or something. He had always wished his father would come with him, but he too was busy. Max sighed as he walked along at a steady pace, not notciing the sourndings that had came up before him to greet him.
"Phloshun!," Flame's voice snapped him back to reality.
As he looked around, he relized he was paused in the main Gym, where battles where hosted. At least, that's what he thought. He saw a few water types swimming around in a big tank. Many seemd calm as the boy stood there, others seemed not to notice him at all. And then he noticed a girl.
"Are you Misty?" he was able to ask, hi brain still in a confused state.

Someone walked in shortly after she had called. She wasn't sure if it were the person who had shouted or not, but regardless... it was someone. Misty took a deep breath, walking slowly over to them and offering up a small smile. They didn't seem like a trainer, but you never knew. "Hey! Welcome to Cerulean City's gym!" She greeted, happily. Psyduck looked up from the pool as she began to talk. It wasn't long before he was at her side. She casually pushed him back with her foot, trying her hardest to look as if she hadn't noticed. Psyduck could be a pain at times.
The man didn't have time to respond, however, as the gym doors opened once more. Misty spun around quickly to see who had appeared this time. A younger boy -more than likely her age- had appeared in the gym doors on the other side of the gym. Misty took a few steps closer, and glanced him over. He definitely looked like a trainer; he was probably the one who she'd heard just moments before. Misty left Psyduck near the older man, and walked slowly over to the trainer.
"Are you Misty?" The trainer seemed distracted as he asked this, but most people were when they came here. She nodded, fidgeting with her extensions. She was wishing that she had taken them off when she had removed the rest of her mermaid outfit. Misty hated to wear her hair down. But, she played it casual. "That's me. Welcome to the Cerulean City Pokemon Gym." She greeted in what she hoped would be welcoming manner.

Cal drifted off again. He had missed the chance to talk. For once.
But his attention turned to the the Pokémon by him.
"Oh, hello fellow." Cal greeted, bending to face the Psyduck. "You this Gym's party Pokémon?" He asked, as if the Pokémon would reply.
The leader was now talking with a new person... could it be he was going to witness a Gym battle?

He smiled dimly as the Gym Leader walked over to him. Wow. She had longer hair than he had expected. Or at least saw in the pictures. She was pretty famous for her water shows wither her three sisters. Were they triplets or something? He didn't know.
"Uh, I'm Max," he stuttered, relizing he had been standing there, lost in his own thoughts. "Max Smith. I'm from Johto."
He knew he was probably sounding dumb right now. He always sounded dumb when he met a Gym Leader for the first time. If they were strong, that is. He couldn't help but glance at the man with Misty's Phsyduck. Had he seen him before or something? He could never remember these things.

The trainer seemed surprised, or slightly out of it. Misty smiled slightly and held back a laugh. She loved seeing trainers reactions to the gym. "Nice to meet you," Misty soon responded to his introduction. "You're far from home, then. You must be a trainer, I take it?" Her eyes shifted to his Pokemon briefly, before she looked back to him.
Meanwhile, Psyduck was staring at the other man with a rather blank expression on his face. As the man bent down, Psyduck jumped back. "Psy! Psyduck!" He called out. Misty turned quickly, glaring slightly at him. "Psyduck! Be nice!" She scolded, with a slight eye roll. She didn't want him to do anything stupid; he was very unpredictable.

Cal chuckled at the command, rubbing the back of his head, somewhat embarrassed for having caused the Pokémon to be scolded.
"Oh, please, he isn't bothering. I've always been fond for Grass Pokémon, but their effect on Water Pokémon is what mostly leaves me amazed." He added, getting up.
Slipping his hand into the pocket, he was searching for a small device he brought with him. What was it called...? Prof. Oak had given it to him...

He couldn't help but smile at the Phsyduck. Water types were always funny. Although, he prefered fire rather than water. He never knew why, though it was always weird. Steadily, he sighed.
"Yes," he said now to Misty, "I am a trainer. And if you don't mind, I'd like to have a battle."
Phlosun!" Flame's fire shot out of his back at the sound of the word battle. Although Max wasn't planning on using him for this one in parctucular.

"Of course I don't mind! I'm always up for a good battle,"Misty smirked; of course he was a trainer. A battle would be fun, though. She spun around, giving a slight nod before clapping her hands together and glancing out toward her Pokemon. They were still splashing about the pool carelessly. "Everyone out!" She called. Although, since Psyduck had jumped out there was really only three Pokemon left in the pool. Dewgong, Starmie, and Staryu - her oldest Pokemon.
She only hesitated for a few brief seconds as the Pokemon made their way over to the edge of the pool. She then tossed out their Pokeballs and -one by one- she returned them to their balls. Once everyone was out of the pool, she was quick to get it into gym mode. A few small preparations, and the pool was once again the stadium. It wasn't like much had changed. They did fight on water, after all.
Misty was about to turn back to Max, when she remembered the other man. She glanced over at him as Psyduck began to waddle her way. She sighed. "If you're sure. But trust me, he can be a bother." She reached for his Pokeball, ready to send him back. There was no way she'd be using Psyduck in this! [/blockquote]

"A gym battle! This might get interesting!" Cal gasped, running to get a seat in the empty crowd.
The battle didn't seem to attract many for being unexpected, but still, he could only see himself sitting there, crossing his arms and legs.
A small, red object dropped from his pocket right after.
Looking down, he recognized the object as being the one Oak gave him.
"The Pokédex." Cal commented in a low voice, picking it up. The battle was starting any moment.

He smiled. "Great!" he practicaly exclaimed. His vision went to the old man merel yonce before he turned absent mindedly, knowing where to stand already. "C'mon, guys!" he asked of his two Pokemon.
Flame and Nine obeidently followed him, Nine chraging down some steps to catch up with him. Max grabbed for a Pokeball on his belt, already knowing who he was going to use for this Gym Battle. And he already guessed that even Misty hadn't ever seen or heard of it. Not yet, anyway.
