As Holly approached the PokeCenter, she entered and gave a sigh of relief. She had made it! “Thanks, Luvdisc.” the blonde said and, pulling out a pokeball, returned the pokemon. Putting it away, she walked up to the counter and handed Nurse Joy her pokemon. The Nurse accepted them with a smile and Holly turned around to find a seat and wait.
The center seemed oddly crowded but then again, it must be due to all the passengers from the ship. Turning around again just as another few trainers entered, Holly addressed Nurse Joy once more. “Um, excuse me but you don’t happen to have any rooms open tonight do you?” she asked crossing her fingers in hope.
Nurse Joy smiled again. “Let me check that for you.” She replied and began clicking away at her keyboard. Holly waited patiently for a moment until Nurse Joy looked up again. “I’m sorry, but we actually don’t.” she said. Holly nodded and turned around again.
“Great, now what am I supposed to do?” she mumbled to herself. In a blind slump the coordinator seated herself at the nearest empty booth and muttered to herself to taking no notice of where she was really.

A shadow moved silently in the night... it crossed Vermilion, heading for the port area...
There were no security agents in the area. It went by unnoticed. Not a sound, not a whisper, not a light.
Mightyena felt someone approach their seat. His ears twitched for a moment.
Look up? He thought. But then, he'd have the pain of lifting his head. Maybe not...
Then a scent came to his nose. He knew that scent from when that girl was by David.
He almost leaped in the air when he realized that the girl was sitting across the table, annoyed.
If David found out...
"Arf!" He barked, calling his trainer's attention.
David sighed.
"What is it, Mightyena...? Did I step on your tail again...?" He opened his eyes and nearly choked on his drink when he noticed the girl from before was right there. "Gah...!"
He couldn't even speak because of the drink, so he started to hit his chest as hard as he could to swallow it.

Holly continued grumbling to herself when she suddenly heard a pokemon’s bark. She looked up startled and saw that it was that same trainer from before again. A blush instantly began to seep into her cheeks as Holly saw him. Luckily, the trainer seemed to be asleep and she was about to shush the Mightyena but then he stirred. Holly almost yelped and quickly made to duck under the table. Maybe he would imagine having seen her?
Holly could hear choking and spluttering sounds from above and closed her eyes. This was ridiculous, why was she hiding? The coordinator didn’t care to contemplate her thoughts but rather waited until a moment where the sputtering seemed to have calmed a bit then crept out the side and slunk into the next booth.
The moment Holly was sitting upright again, she slid down so that her blonde hair wouldn’t be seen over the seat. Letting out a half-breath, Holly relaxed only a second before perking her ears to hear if he might not have noticed.

Mightyena tilted his head.
Why is she hiding?
He slowly followed her tracks, watching closely as she ended up on another booth.
He tilted his head again and barked.
"Why'd you... *cough* do that?!" David suddenly yelled at the Pokémon.
Migthyena barked again, this time beaconing at the seat with his head.
"Just get to sleep, we're leaving in a few minutes..." David added, laying his head back to sleep for some moments.
What the heck is wrong with you? Mightyena thought, confused.
He barked once more and went back to near David, trying to fall asleep again.

Holly jumped as the pokemon appeared at her side and started barking. “Shush!” she told it. “Please, shush! I’m not going near him again! I promise!” she whispered repeatedly. Holly winced each time the pokemon barked but once it finally left she let out a sigh of relief and placed her head on the table.
This is becoming a hassle, she though to herself with a giggle. Then, she saw Nurse Joy place her pokeball back on the counter and hopped up from the booth to retrieve it. As she passed, Holly noticed the trainer was asleep again and she smiled at the Mightyena pressing a pleading finger to her lips before slipping by.
As she approached the counter, Holly forgot about the trainer and his pokemon and replaced her own pokeball in her bag. “Um, Nurse Joy,” she began cautiously. “Do you know of any place I can stay the night?”
Holly worried that the nurse would know of no such place and, to her horror, that was exactly what happened. Holly’s spirits dropped. How could this happen to her on the first day? Thanking Nurse Joy, the coordinator turned and exited the PokeCenter knowing not what she was going to do.
As the chilly darkness engulfed her, Holly shivered and let out a sigh. It was going to be a long night she knew. But…what to do?! Looking left and right, Holly just pulled her pokeball out and gazed at it hesitating on releasing Luvdisc. As a new pokemon, she didn’t want to share all the troubles swirling in her mind with it. Not until she knew Luvdisc truly trusted her as a trainer. No, Holly put the pokeball away and sat down on the ground beside the door to think. Again another cold wind blew making her blonde hair sway and her thin frame shiver.
“Arceus help me…” she muttered irritably.

"Done for today?" A security guard asked another one who was just across the gate.
He was lowering his gun and patting his Arcanine, which meant he would be leaving soon.
"Kind of a cold night, man. You stayin' here for long?"
"Nah. Billy here is just as tired as I am." The other one answered, referring to the Luxray by him.
"See ya, the-..." A sudden noise made the security guard grab his weapon again, poitning at the dark. "Did you hear that?!"
His Arcanine started to snarl.
"Yes I did..." The other guard held the gun into the darkness. "There's someone he-AAAH!" The man was suddenly thrown backwards, falling into the water followed by a loud echo of his pained voice.
"ROY!" The man yelled into the dark void below the wall.
But he couldn't even react when he was also thrown by a sudden force from behind, not even being given the chance to yell.
The Luxray and Arcanine started barking wildly at the shadow who moved stealthly in the darkness. And before even THEY could even react, they fell over their paws from a sudden earthquake... the last thing their eyes could see was a shadow hurling them into the void, leaving the place empty.
"Eheheh... very good, Sneasel." A man suddenly spoke.
A red feather appeared from the shadow, showing the Pokémon itself afterwards.
"Those two are down... we're free to do as we will... Piloswine! Bring down the power center!"
A Piloswine suddenly charged against the building's wall, bringing the wall down and the electricity of all of Vermilion with it.

Holly stayed slouched against the building grumbling to herself as she thought of what to do. She was absolutely stranded. This was hopeless! The worst part was that everything in the city was closed, she didn’t know her way around, and there was no place to go even if she did! Holly let out a groan and smacked her head back against the building wall to gaze at the sky. If worst came to worst, she’d sleep out here.
Suddenly, Holly had an idea. That port where she’d been earlier; perhaps she could find it again. There had been a grassy hill somewhere there that she could easily sleep on for the night, right? Holly picked up her bag and began rummaging through it for her map. Pulling the paper out she stood and examined it before beginning to make her way onwards.
As she walked through the dark streets, Holly felt a cold wind blow and she shivered. Sleeping outside was going to be horrible! But it was her only choice. Holly merely wished she could find someplace indoors where she could sleep. Well, it was a way to get in touch with nature right? Camping! Holly hated camping.
The blonde trainer irritably grumbled as she made her way along. What had she done to deserve this so early in the journey? Nothing that’s what. Fate just hated her. F this kept up she’d lose every contest within the region in a week. Holly couldn’t stand this thought and quickly brushed it away.
She had just come into view of the port when she heard a sudden cry. Instantly the coordinator snapped a hand to her belt and placed it upon her pokeball. There! Something moved in the shadows. Stuffing the map carelessly away, Holly grabbed her pokeball but – RIP! The girl snapped her attention to the bag and exclaimed loudly in her dismay. The map had ripped! In her haste Holly hadn’t seen she was stuffing it in the pocket with her Pokedex and the corner had torn the paper.
She was having the worst day ever. Growling angrily now, Holly enlargened her pokeball and held it out in front of her to survey the scene. Nothing seemed to be moving now but she felt as if there was someone watching her and the blonde could almost swear she heard something.
“Oh, just come out of hiding!” she called out frustratedly. “This is not funny at all!”

Mightyena quickly raised his head. His sense of hearing was just as developed as his smelling; and he heard something coming out from the outside.
He thought about barking to wake his traner up, but forgot he'd be toast if it was nothing.
So he discreetly started walking towards the exit, watching the town in search for something wrong.
Just as he was about to give up and be glad he was wrong, the lights went out inside the Center.
Because only the nurse was there, along with a few other trainers, not much chaos installed in the building. The nurse grumbled something and walked into the emergency room, trying to fix the problem.
Mightyena ran for David and started barking, but the boy simply didn't wake up.
So the Hyena Pokémon took a closer look and sighed.
"YAU!" David suddenly yelled, scratching his leg. He found Mightyena's teeth dug into his clothes, just enoiugh for him too feel something. "What's the big idea?!"
Mightyena beaconed for the exit with his head.
"Outside?" David ignored the fact he was bit for some moments, so he walked up to the exit and looked around.
In spite of the darkness, it seemed perfectly normal.
"So?"
Mightyena's ears fell in disappointment. He knew he heard something outside, and his ears never failed him.
And he was decided in discovering what it was.
So he ran into the night without warning, his red eyes gleaming in the dark.
"Mightyena!" David yelled, trying to follow the Pokémon using the PokéGear as a lantern.

Holly continued standing in the clearing space where she had heard noises. This was frustrating, she thought and looked around. What was out there? It was probably just something silly and small scaring her into a fit. Considering how her day has been, Holly wouldn’t doubt she was being paranoid.
With a sigh, the blonde coordinator shrunk her pokeball again and put it in her bag. Then taking out the two pieces of the map that had ripped, she looked at them with a frown. Why, oh why had this happened? Because she had been careless, this wasn’t fate -- it was clearly her own fault. This only proceeded to tick Holly off more and she stuffed the two pieces back in her bag.
Looking around the dark streets, she closed her eyes and signed again before opening them and beginning to walk straight ahead. If memory served, the dock should be just a few blocks this way. She just needed to follow the sound of the water in the distance. Yeah, that was all. Suddenly something moved in the shadows again.
“I defiantly saw that!” Holly exclaimed and grabbed her pokeball. Tossing the sphere into the air, she cried out to her pokemon and pointed in the direction of the shifting shadows. “Ice beam now Luvdisc, right at that shadow!” she demanded. The little pokemon didn’t even hesitate in its confusion but did as it was told. The moment it shot the ice beam, another pokemon came skidding into view.
It was a Mightyena! And…that trainer from before soon followed. Holly could only glance at them as Luvdisc ended its ice beam and leapt back to her side. Squinting into the shadows to see if she had hit the target, Holly gasped. The thing was still moving around just out of view. This really wasn’t her day.
“Try and freeze whatever that thing is that’s moving!” she demanded and Luvdisc nodded with the slightest of “Luvs” before jumping into action. It shot multiple beams at the darting thing when it suddenly stopped and everything was still. Holly looked around curiously but the thing had disappeared.
“W-what was that?” she managed to stutter. Before anything else could happen, the thing darted around and rammed right into her. Holly let out a gasp and closed her eyes as she was blown back a few inches and her blonde hair fluttered.

"It's that girl again!" David yelled out, attaching the Pokégear to the strap again so his hands could be free.
He ran to her side and helped her get up, cleaning the dirt off her clothes.
"Why do you have this tendency to get into trouble?!" David muttered, detaching the Pokégear again. He deactivated the Latern mode and switched it to Match Call. "Maybe this was just in Vermillion... but why did this blackout happen?"
David saw Mightyena return from the darkness, snarling at whatever was behind his back, in the shadows, stopping by David's side.
"And how did you know she was here?" He added, looking down at the Pokémon.

Holly had just opened her bright blue eyes when someone called out loudly and seemingly aghast. The blonde coordinator could only frown as he spoke the first time and sent him a glare. The Mightyena had found her, she hadn’t been looking for it! She quickly shrugged him off as he tried to help and stood up on her own sending him another icy glare.
“I’m not having the best of days,” she snapped irritably. “But I’m no damsel in distress!” Then looking around Holly realized why the streets had become so dark. There was not a single light on in the entire city apart from what this boy was able to shine from his pokegear -- there was a blackout.
“Do you think something might have happened with the power lines?” she asked changing tone to a more neutral and far less hostile one. “An electric pokemon might have gotten near them and played around.” she continued. It was possible. Holly had once heard some pokemon actually ate electricity so could it not be that one had gotten into the power center and messed things up?
Then that Mightyena appeared and Holly glanced at it. That thing must have a really good nose to have been able to find her after such a short meeting. That meeting at the PokeCenter ran through Holly’s head and made the girl blush deeply. In an attempt to distract herself, she reached out a gentle hand and let her fingers dance across the larger pokemon’s head as she pat it. It was a good pokemon and she had taken a liking to it in the brief time Holly had been around the Mightyena.
“I don’t know.” was her only reply to the boy’s question even though she knew perfectly well. Again that blush crept into Holly’s cheeks and this time she couldn’t push it back no matter how hard she tried. Gazing at the boy before her didn’t exactly help either so she just glanced the other way and pretended to look into the shadows.
“Did you see that thing, though?” she asked still gently patting the pokemon’s head. “I have a feeling it might have had something to do with the power shortage. It was fairly decent size too but it had to have been a pokemon. Nothing else can move the way it did without being clearly seen.”

Mightyena closed his eyes and happily let himself pat on the head, and would've purred if he were one of those cat Pokémon.
"The line's dead. It's impossible to call anyone from here." David suddenly muttered, switching back to the lantern.
He heard the girl's hypothesis carefully and thought about it. A Pokémon bringing down the light in the city? Why would a Pokémon do that?
He saw something too, but it was so faint it could have just been his Pokégear's light reflecting on a mirror or window of sorts.
What's more, Mightyena guided him there, but now he wasn't sure if it was because of the girl or because of this shadow.
"You're saying a Pokémon brought down the lights? Why would a Pokémon do that? And how would one get past the security guards and wind up in the middle of town?"

As the line didn’t go through, Holly felt a tiny spurge of panic go through her but she quickly brushed it away. There was nothing to be scared about; the situation would be fixed by the next morning -- everything was going to be fine.
The coordinator frowned and thought about the boy’s next question for a little while. She wasn’t sure why exactly a pokemon would want to eat or chew up the power lines but it might have just been hungry. As for the security guards, maybe they weren’t looking for a second and it got by. Either way, it was hard to reply without sounding like and idiot so Holly chewed her lip and thought some more.
“Well, let’s go check it out.” she suggested finally. “Maybe something happened there to cause it.”
Holly gave the Mightyena one last pat then pulled out her two ripped map pieces. Sweat dropping a little in her embarrassment, she prepared herself to ignore whatever comments he might make. Looking over the map in the dark, she strained her eyes to read it. There had been the faintest lights earlier but now it was pitch dark and she couldn’t see a thing.
Rummaging in her bag once more, Holly pulled out a flashlight and flipped it on. Crouching to the ground, she placed both map pieces beside each other and shone the light over them looking for something to indicate where the main power source for the city was.

David tried to contain his laughter at the map; it was rather easy, compared to restraining yourself from laughing in front of an evil genius's face. Ardos, for example.
"Looks like you've been through quite the ordeal yourself." He simply commented, checking the Pokégear for some network around the place. "You say you want to check it out?"
David threw a glare a Mightyena.
You got me into this, you take me out of it. He thought, and as if the thought was telepathically to the Pokémon, Mightyena stood on all fours and nodded confidently.
"Lead the way, Holly." He suddenly said, stopping by Mightyena's side.

Holly was quiet as she studied the map but upon looking up she saw the boy throw a glare at his pokemon insinuating irritation. She raised an eyebrow and stared.
“You don’t have to come.” she said in an offended tone. “I just thought you might want to fix the power outage. But if you don’t care neither do I. I’ve had enough problems as it is and finding a place to stay the night is my current one. I don’t need to go off and fix this with anyone.” she snapped.
This was an incredibly rude and not exactly fair of her but Holly didn’t care. He wasn’t being particularly friendly either. She blamed her moodiness on a feminine problem but internally she knew that was far from it. Instead of pondering her moods uselessly, Holly just scooped up her ripped map and shoved it back in her bag.
“I’m going back to my original plan and sleeping on the ground by the docks.” she said. “Have fun with whatever you decide to do.” she added grouchily. Who cared what this trainer did. She was only going to get more and more irritable being around him -- or anyone else for that matter. Self pity had turned more into something of anger at herself for being unprepared and Holly knew that if she was around anyone much longer she would literally bite their head off. Besides, antagonizing a cute trainer wouldn’t do her any favors in the long run.
So Holly turned on her heel and flipped off her flashlight before shoving it into her bag. With that, she listened carefully to see if she could hear the ocean in the distance. When she did a few moments later, the blonde coordinator began to make her way along leaving this whole ordeal behind her. Or so she thought.
